Second Wood Project

I hope to start making this a regular occurrance on this blog (posting more wood projects). But now that I'm done with school, I hope to dedicate more hours each week to making things. I saw a picture of this item in a Woodsmith magazine and have made a replica as a gift. It is basically a small organizer for keys and similar sized items plus a chalkboard for writing messages.

I haven't did much wood working the past 3 years, so this project was good for me to get back in the groove a little bit.

Pasque Flower

Amazingly, the flowers on this plant survived quite nicely during our recent snow storm. The neighbor gave me quite a quizzical look as I was prostrate on the ground trying to capture a good picture.

Bird Update

Okay... sorry to bore most of you, but we're assuming a couple people might be interested.

Saturday afternoon we saw our first male and female Cardinal at our feeders! Yes, this is a big time announcement for us so we hope you're able to contain your excitement and keep it together. Additionally, we had another first as well, a Yellow-rumped Warbler, affectionately known as "Butter Butt" in the bird world.

Hello... spring, where are you?

Like everyone else, we got our share of snow last night. Gotta love springtime. I was just about to post a picture of our Pasque Flower (still needed to take a picture of it). I wonder what it'll look like after the snow melts?

You know the snow is quite heavy when the plow trucks are getting stuck. I went over to talk to him while he wait for a tow and he stated this was the third or fourth time he was stuck.

Any birders out there?

For those interested, here's what we've seen in our backyard (or visible in the air from our yard) so far this year. We've heard a Cardinal, but have yet been able to spot him.

Dark-eyed Junco
Black Capped Chickadee
Whitebreasted Nuthatch
Redbreasted Nuthatch
American Robin
House Finch
Gold Finch
English Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
Grackle
Crow
Mourning Dove
Hairy Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker

All Done

Woo-hoo! As of last night at 8:30... my college career is over. It feels pretty good I must say. It's hard to believe, but its been 3.5 years since my first course. For those of you interested, graduation is at 5pm on Friday, May 9th. We'll be having a get together at the house following commencement.

Last Test

I have my last test tonight for my graduate program. I am pretty excited for it, as I'm 99% sure this will be my last test for my collegiate career. My last course this semester has been a Business Policy & Strategy class. It has been a little boring at times, but has proved to be very helpful and has helped tie together my previous courses.

Spring?

I noticed yesterday that some of our perennials are starting to grow a bit, mainly our Sedum. I was pleasantly surprised, hopefully they don't grow too much yet as it is still quite chilly at night.

Like everyone else... we have spring fever.
